DIY Flower Balls

This was another wedding DIY project.  We've decided to hang them from the large tree that will be over the reception area. 

You will need styrofoam balls, fake flowers, wire cutters, and some sort of wide ribbon.  We bought all of our supplies at our local Michaels.  

Cut the stems of the flowers, leaving about 3-4 inches.  Then stick the stems into the styrofoam, randomly arranging the flowers but making sure the cover all of ball so that none of the styrofoam is visible.

You should end up with something like this.  We found that it took a lot more flowers than we thought it would, so make sure to buy extra!

Take your wide ribbon and make a loop large enough to hang, then pin the ends into the styrofoam.  Have fun experimenting with different sizes and colors of flowers.  

DIY Paper Pinwheels

We found this tutorial in DIY magazine (March/April issue) and decided to use the idea for my wedding!

To start you will need, some type of patterned paper; we used scrapbooking paper that we bought in a large pack of different colors and prints. After a very irritating and unsuccessful trip to Joann Fabrics, we ended up finding everything we needed at our local Hobby Lobby. 

Cut your paper into any size square, depending on how small or large you'd like your finished pinwheel. We used 8" x 8" squares.  From each corner, cut halfway up the paper toward the center on a diagonal.

Bend your pins so that they look like an upside down L, with the round part of the pin near the top.  Then fold every other corner of your paper in toward the center and stick the pin through all layers.  Using tape or hot glue, secure the longer portion of the pin to a dowel rod.  You can cover the tape/glue with coordinating ribbon.

These yellow and gray pinwheels are being incorporated into centerpieces and bridesmaid bouquets for an upcoming summer wedding this June and they couldn't be easier to make.
